Almost Winter Classic 2025

Welcome

This Years AWC is on Saturday, December 13, 2025

Welcome to CSHL's 15th Annual Almost Winter Classic 2025!

The registration process will take you through everything required to officially register for CSHL's 15th Annual Almost Winter Classic!

Please read through each page carefully, as well as all the details below before registering.

Registration for this years AWC is $20 per player - this cost will go towards facility rental as well as a commemorative t-shirt.  To ensure we're able to get a shirt in your size, please make sure you register by 11/24/25.

Schoolyard-style draft, 4V4.

1st game starts at 9am sharp.  Must arrive no later than *8:15am* so draft can start promptly at 8:30am

May the most worthy team capture the Raffi!

Location of Tournament

The tournament will take place at the Waymer Park Hockey Rink.  The address is:

14008 Holbrooks Rd.

Huntersville, NC 28078

Runner (56) & Goalie (8) Registration Caps

***Please be aware we are accepting runners and goalies for 8 teams.  We will cap runners at 56 (7 runners for 8 teams) and at 8 goalies.  Once these thresholds are exceeded, runners after 56 and goalies after 8 will go on a Waiting List.***

The number is 56 (instead of 48) because something always happens to at least a couple people who plan on attending.  We would rather have a couple teams have 3 subs if everyone shows up vs. having some teams only have 1 sub if we only accept 48 (and some people don't show up).

We ask that you let us know ASAP if you register and it turns out you CANNOT attend.  This will give us time to replace you with someone on the Waiting List.  Waiting List members will be contacted in order of when they registered (ie. the first person on the Waiting List will be the first person contacted to see if he/she is still available to participate).

WAITING LIST

Once registration exceeds 56 runners and 8 goalies respectively, a Waiting List is to be established for 2 reasons:

1. Priority:  if someone in the original registration drops out, they will be replaced on a first-come-first-serve basis with the Waiting List

2.  Secondarily:  if the Waiting List gets big enough, CSHL will consider a format with either 9 or 10 teams if enough runners and goalies register

We aim to make the final call by Saturday, December 6th as to whether or not we will expand to additional teams beyond 8 so people on the Waiting List can plan to attend our event all day Saturday, December 13th.  Do not wait to register!

Please note that there is also a registration fee associate with the Waiting List.  If you sign up for the waiting list, and do not make it into the tournament, you will be refunded.

Registering as an "A", "B", or "C" Player

The purpose of the ratings is to help the Captains be at least a little knowledgable about the players they draft, especially in cases where they've never met specific players prior to this tournament.

Registering as an "A" player:   has previously been a high contributor in any hockey league or tournament, whether that be ice, roller, or deck hockey... and whether that be related to statistics (goals, assist, etc) or other hockey-related contributions (excellent defender, etc)

Registering as a "B" player:  knows the game well enough, and contributes here and there but displays no more than "some" examples of prolific scoring or hockey contributions

Registering as a "C" player:  ranges from "new to hockey" all the way to "some competitive contribution".  Hockey contributions may be limited for reasons including but not limited to "shaking off the rust", age, general ability, etc.

Goalies:  please do your best to rate yourself.  You are encouraged to register as a "C" goalie if you are new to the position or haven't played goalie in a lengthy period of time.  "A" goalies play consistently in either the ball/roller/ice formats and have the ability to win games for their teams.  "B" goalies fall somewhere in between.

Tournament Format

The AWC Tournament format will include a Round Robin where teams are guaranteed 3 games.  If enough registrants sign up for 8 teams, and the infrastructure allows - we will be utilizing the hockey court AND tennis court for round robin games.

The teams will be seeded after the Round Robin into a Single Elimination Bracket.  Once a team loses, they will be eliminated from the tournament.  All elimination games will be played on the new rink.

Game schedule and final format will be provided once registration ends on or around Saturday, December 6th (see above details).

We will play 4 on 4 hockey and each team will have 7 runners total (6 min) and 1 goalie.

Tournament Rules & Volunteers

Tournament Rules will be posted the week before the tournament.  Safety remains CSHL's top priority.  We ask that you respect the rules and heed the judgment calls of our volunteer referees and make an effort to avoid physical confrontation at all costs; it will not be tolerated.

If you would like to volunteer as scorekeeper, referee, organizer, etc. please contact us at CSHL@charlottestreethockeyleague.org.  Thank you!
